The Recreational Vehicle industry has grown dramatically over the
past forty years. And with it, interest groups and associations
by vehicle manufacturer, region and similar hobby types have further
encouraged this rapidly expanding market.
RV Rallies attracting 200 to 6,000
campers, trailers and motor coaches are convening weekly at events
across the country. In an effort to provide competitive services to
attendees, organizers are exploring ways to make their event stand apart
from the competition.
The availability of top-notch electrical service is the type of value
added feature allowing organizers to differentiate their event from the
masses of others vying for the RV fan's attention. Whether a
15 amp or 30 amp per coach service, Hollywood Lights has the expertise,
equipment and trained personnel to provide electrical services for RV
Rallies of all types and sizes.
Although many motor coaches come with their own generator, a growing
number of RV Rally managers view offering electrical services to
attendees as an easy, clean value added service. When an RV Rally offers
on site electrical service for event participants:
- You will greatly reduce noise problems from armies of individual
generators
- You will eliminate the complaints of fumes flowing from one
vehicle's generator into the neighboring coaches. You will have more
control of the hours electrical services are provided to attendees
- You will have flexibility for access to power for all attendees
This presents a win-win for RV Rally management by creating a
competitive advantage for their event, while providing superior service
to attendees.
With over five years of RV Rally experience on job sites all across
the continental U.S., Hollywood Lights has worked for Rallies from 200
to 2,000 coaches. Wherever your event occurs, Hollywood Lights will be
there with exceptional customer service, trained personnel, and the
proper equipment to power the event smoothly and seamlessly in the eyes
of your attendees. Our client list is extensive, including facilities
like state fairgrounds and university campuses; associations like the
National Square Dancers; major manufacturers like Holiday Rambler; RV
clubs like Good Sam; and festivals such as the Kodak Albuquerque
International Balloon Fiesta.

THE DETAILS
How much power?
- 10 amps is enough power to run the coach's converter allowing
operation of the 12 volt lighting system and to trickle charge the
batteries.
- 15 amps will operate the converter and also allow the use of the
coffee pot or microwave, each item one at a time. 15 amps is not
enough to operate the air conditioning.
- 30 amps is enough power to run at least one air conditioner and
one other small appliance.

How much will it cost?
Full service turn-key system, where Hollywood provides installation,
maintenance and removal of the power distribution, coordinate generators
and fueling:
For electrical distribution and labor only, based on serving a 5 day
event and at least 1000 units:
- 10 or 15 amps per coach is $50 each.
- 30 amps per coach is $70 each.
Generator costs vary across the country. We own generators but the
freight costs are too high to ship them around the country. We use a
local generator provider to lower freight costs and provide local
maintenance service. The key factors regarding cost for rental of
generators are:
- The length of the event, one or two weeks including ingress and
egress.
- The number of hours per day the generators are operated. This is
termed single shift (8 hours), double shift (16 hours), or triple
shift (24 hours.)
- The cost of fuel delivered once or twice a day.
- The size of the generator with regard to 10, 15, or 30 amp
service.
- The distance the generators need to travel to the event (freight
cost.)
Rates for generators are anywhere from $1000 to $4000 per generator
based on the above factors. To be able to provide an accurate estimate
for your needs call us with the dates, location, anticipated number of
units, a proposed parking plan and what amperage (15 amp, or 30 amp) you
want to provide and hours of operation. We can usually respond with a
written estimate within 5 days.

The Parking Plan:
Parking of the vehicles is an important aspect of providing temporary
electrical service. We strongly suggest that you allow Hollywood to
participate in the development of the site parking plan. Efficient use
of the electrical in developing the layout helps keep your cost down.
Our goal is to provide a high level of customer service to your event.
Extensive planning in the site parking
allows Hollywood the opportunity
to fully complete our commitment to your success.
The picture at right (click to enlarge) shows the typical layout for a 30 amp system. Each
parking section would consist of 108 units. Using a 300 KW generator we
connect two 400 amp panels, one centered at each island of 54 units.
From each 400 amp panel we feed three 200 amp panels. One located at
each 400 amp panel and the others 140' in either direction (based on 20
x 50' parking spaces.) From each 200 amp panel we feed six 30 amp RV
panels. Each 30 amp RV panel have outlets for 3 RV's.
Labor:
Hollywood provides all on site management of our service. We
supplement our labor needs with local union stagehands or non-union
temporary labor depending on local conditions. Although Hollywood is an
electrical contractor in Oregon and Washington, we use a local
electrical contractor outside of the northwest for connections and any
permits that are required. We provide a skilled technician on site 24
hours a day for any problem solving, during your event.

Now Rent It!
If you choose not to go the "turn key" route, that is, having
Hollywood perform all the work and arrangements, we now have developed a
straight rental pricing system for the equipment. The rental route
provides the following services:
- All of the necessary electrical distribution for your event.
- Hollywood will work with you to develop the best parking plan that
will utilize the electrical distribution for the lowest cost.
- The electrical distribution plan will be in a written easy to
follow map.
- 24 hour phone assistance to make your event a success.
The cost of the rental is based on the amperage supplied to each
unit. Using the 30 amp parking plan (108 units) presented above, the
cost averages out to be $35 per unit. In a 15 amp parking configuration
(108 units) the cost averages out to be $25 per unit. Freight charges
are in addition to the rental cost and a certificate of insurance
covering the equipment is required. There is no charge for Hollywood to
review your parking plan and present an accurate cost for your event.
